Recognizing Plantar Fasciitis Symptoms
Characteristics of plantar fasciitis pain include:
- Sharp, stabbing pain at the underside of the heel during first steps in the morning
- Pain that eases slightly after walking, but returns after prolonged standing or sitting
- Tenderness when pressing on the inner aspect of the bottom heel
- Arch stiffness and tightness in the Achilles tendon
- Aggravation after intense exercise or wearing unsupportive flat footwear
Causes & Heel Spur Association
Repetitive strain, tight calf muscles, high arches, flat feet, sudden increase in running distance, or standing for long hours on hard surfaces can cause micro-tears in the plantar fascia. Chronic inflammation often leads to calcification at the insertion point, visible on foot X-rays as a 'heel spur'.
Comprehensive Treatment Protocol
Treatment involves night splints, silicon heel cups, customized footwear advice, specific Achilles & plantar stretching routines, local anti-inflammatory gel application, and ultrasound-guided local injections for resistant cases.
