The Three Stages of Frozen Shoulder
Frozen shoulder typically progresses through three distinct clinical phases:
- Freezing Stage (Painful): Severe shoulder pain worsening at night, gradual loss of arm movement (lasts 2–9 months)
- Frozen Stage (Stiff): Pain may lessen slightly, but stiffness increases dramatically, severely restricting daily activities (lasts 4–12 months)
- Thawing Stage (Recovery): Motion slowly improves with active therapy and guided rehabilitation (lasts 6–24 months)
Risk Factors & Diagnosis
Frozen shoulder is especially common in individuals with Diabetes Mellitus, thyroid disorders, post-cardiac surgery recovery, or following prolonged shoulder immobilization. Dr. Rahul Kalekar performs clinical capsular pattern motion tests to rule out rotator cuff tears or arthritis.
Advanced Treatment Options
Our clinic provides intra-articular steroid injections under ultrasound guidance to rapidly reduce capsular inflammation, combined with structured physical therapy, home pulley exercises, and intra-articular hydrodilatation when indicated.
